Gold for CRUZ!

CRUZ quality and excellence have been awarded once again!

Gold for CRUZ! Gold for CRUZ!

Since 1887, GRAN CRUZ has produced exceptional ports, marrying tradition with innovation. In 2018, the world’s number 1 port was awarded numerous medals at prestigious international competitions, such as the World Port Awards, the International Wine Contest and the Wine Master Challenge, where the quality and excellence of our ports was recognised once again.

Aged in oak barrels for an average of 10 years and developed using red grape varieties, GRAN CRUZ 10 Year Old received two gold medals this year. The first was at the International Wine Contest, which was held on 19 and 20 April 2018 in Brussels. Judged blind by port and wine experts, GRAN CRUZ 10 Year Old won them over with its spiced flavours of walnuts and candied fruit. It was also recognised at the Wine Master Challenge, a leading event in Portugal, which celebrated its twenty-year anniversary in 2018. Over five thousand wines competed in this event, and once again a gold medal was awarded to GRAN CRUZ 10 Year Old.

We are also very proud to announce that our CRUZ Tawny has won two awards over the course of 2018. Aged for 4 years in oak casks, the fruity flavours of CRUZ Tawny won it a gold medal at the Wine Master Challenge, as well as a “best” medal at the World Port Awards, which assesses ports for both their taste and their production process.

Finally, the Vintage 1999, which has won several gold medals in past years, was voted Best Port 2018 at this year’s World Port Awards. Produced from a single harvest, our Vintage 1999 is aged in oak barrels for between 2 and 3 years, and again in bottles for several more years. It is this ageing technique that allows it to develop an exceptional flavour of red fruit and spices, as well as a unique colour.

Our wine maker ensures the quality of our ports, overseeing their ageing, structure and flavours in order to guarantee the consistency of every one, which has led our range to be awarded gold over 75 times in 18 years.
